Plan Washington

Problem

The Washington Business Alliance had multiple microsites creating confusion about where to send people to read about their work. Maintaining those website updated and with relevant content was additional work for the team.

GOALS

  • Merge three of their microsites into one

  • Create awareness of their membership and increase applications

  • Share their guiding playbook called Plan Washington which the new site will be based on

Solution

Focus on creating a coherent website based on their new branding and ensure their messaging has space to grow. Some pages are very structure like the Plan Walkthrough or the Data Visualization templates but there’s a generic template within the CMS that allows them to create any page they need.

The get involved CTA were added on the header, the footer and key pages that mentioned the benefits of joining the organization to increase members conversions.

What I did

Review and collaborated with the lead designer. I was in charge of the front-end development of the site. Debugging errors, cross-browser testing, created micro animations for hover states and trained the client on how to use the CMS built on Umbraco.

What I learned

As I reflect back on this project, I noticed a few key things were missing on the events page interface like a “see previous month” button once you start exploring the list of events. Also, if a month didn’t have an event would be nice to show the next available one instead of a statement that says no events this month.
